There are times in life when I feel the need for a comforting movie. We've all been there right!? Whether it's been a tough week or a challenging day, sometimes all you want is to immerse yourself in the magical world of cinema. So don't worry, I've got you covered!
Here is my list of essential movies for these occasions, complete with trailers for each one to cater to everyone's tastes. So, get your snacks ready, grab a cup of tea (or hot chocolate), and unwind!

This movie is the epitome of feel-good - it makes me laugh and smile the entire way through and has you rooting for the main character. I’ve watched it multiple times and regularly quote from it! It’s about a Greek woman who falls in love with a non-Greek man and has to try to convince her family to accept him.
2. Patch Adams

Robin Williams gives a heartwarming performance as a doctor who wants to make a real difference for his patients. Filled with funny, feel-good moments, it’s an inspirational film based on a true story. I won’t say that it is the reason that I became a doctor, but it definitely was part of the journey!

Simon Pegg gives a brilliant comedic performance in another great classic with a fun and lighthearted comedy about overcoming challenges and fighting for love. He signs up to run a Marathon in order to try to win his ex back. If you finish and need more Simon Pegg, watch Hot Fuzz.
4. About Time

One of my all-time favorite movies that I watch annually - this, for me, has everything. Great British humor, an epic love story, and time travel (but done very cleverly and not sci-fi).
5. Bridesmaids

If you want a fun, light comedy for a girls' night or even a solo pizza-indulgence evening, then look no further. Very funny.

To me, you can't really top Steve Carell's humor - I love everything that he is in. In this hidden gem of a movie, you'll find a really cute love story. Family drama meets romance. If you're craving more Carell, then look no further than The 40-Year-Old Virgin or Little Miss Sunshine.
7. Ratatouille

A Pixar animation masterpiece. Fun for all ages, this movie encompasses all the magic of film with beautiful food sequences and a meaningful story that you’ll keep with you forever. Another great Pixar movie is ‘Up’ if you haven't seen it already! (And checkout my other blog post about Must-See Films for Foodies: A Movie Buff's Guide)

An oldie but a goodie. Again, Jack Black - what more can I say? Written by Mark White, who most recently gave us the brilliant White Lotus series. Great musical numbers, and I love the scene where the headmistress sings "Edge of Seventeen" (linked the scene but spoiler alert).

This French movie has been an all-time favorite of mine for a long while - with its amazing acting, moving story, and beautiful music score, it’s a real winner. I discovered my love for Ludovico Einaudi and Earth, Wind, and Fire too in this film.
10. The Green Book

This cleverly written, witty movie is also very funny and feel-good while tackling serious issues. Brilliant acting and based on a true story - it was my favorite movie of 2018.
11. Chef

How could I not include food-related movies?
This film tells the story of a chef who loses his job at a restaurant and decides to fix up a food truck. Great soundtrack, funny, and really heartwarming. (This also appeared in my other blog post).
12. Julie and Julia

If you're as much a fan of food as I am, then you'll love this movie! There is a parallel storyline that runs throughout, and it's the movie that inspired me to start this blog in the first place!
13. The Birdcage

Last but not least is this eccentric and fun comedy-drama with Robin Williams. There is a great Sister Sledge number at the end that will have you dancing in your living room.
Happy watching! Let me know if there are other feel-good movies that you would add to this list. Always looking for more! 💫📽️
